One of the common afflictions of pregnancy is heartburn. That is one of the first clues I have when I suspect pregnancy. What is heartburn? Heartburn in the burning sensation you experience behind your breast bone following meals. Sometimes it is accompanied by a sour taste in your throat or mouth. Very unpleasant indeed! What can you do about it? There are ways to prevent it or ease it, but not altogether. Avoid spicy, greasy foods Avoid citrus foods or drinks-i.e. orange juice Wait an hour after eating before lying down Eat slowly and properly chew your foods to aid in better digestion If you still have heartburn, I would also highly recommend Maalox! I started by measuring my tablespoons, then I got to where I just take a swig! Oh, how well it works! In case your out of Tums or Maalox, a drink of milk will temporarily coat the stomach and should help to easy your symptoms as will dry crackers.
Some methods I have discovered that have helped tremendously while pregnant with my seventh baby are: Take a super digestive enzyme with each meal. It helps you digest your food faster and more efficiently. Papaya Enzyme- you can take it as often as needed for heartburn. It is a natural remedy to take the place of Maalox or another antacid. One of the old wives tales about heartburn is that the baby you are carrying has lots of hair. I had horrible heartburn and my baby's all had hair, so I'm not so sure that its an old wives tale!
I was always pounding my chest when I had heartburn. I don't think it did any good, but it made me feel better. My children got so used to seeing me pound on my chest that they would start doing it when I did. It was too cute!
