Foods Craved During Pregnancy

Due to the changing hormones, women seem to crave the strangest things.  We share some of these silly cravings to validate some of yours.

It was over 20 months ago that I was pregnant with my first son Julian. I experienced such a whirlwind of emotions, not to mention morning and afternoon sickness, mood swings, bathroom trips every 10 minutes, and those cravings! I had everything from the normal cravings to the weird ones.  I had a sweet tooth, and it didn't help that I had gestational diabetes!

Here is a list of my pregnancy cravings:

·        Ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery

·        Frango Mints

·        Avocado spread on a corn tortilla (which I still love!)

·        Sweet pickles

·        Green peas straight from the can

·        And the weirdest one: French fries dipped in my chocolate shake (I still do this)

I had some strange and semi normal cravings during my pregnancies.   Some of these I list I’m thinking sound yummy now that I’m pregnant with my seventh baby.  However, due to my weak stomach right now, many do not sound so good.   Here are some of the ones that I can think of off the top of my head:

With Cailynn (our first):

    * McDonald’s Quarter Pounder with Cheese, with extra Mac Sauce and Mayo.  (Sadly I threw it up almost every time.)

    * Cornish game hen, stuffed with stuffing

    * Spinach

With Charisa (our second):

    * McDonald’s Bacon Egg Cheese Biscuits

    * Liquid Dial soap (yes, you read that right and yes, I ate it!)

    * Oreos

    * An apple every single night

    * Macaroni and cheese every night the last month

With Benjamin (our third):

First, I’d like to mention that I also had things that made me gag with him. I could taste the egg in brownies or cakes. It was NASTY! I also could NOT tolerate the smell of eggs cooking.  Blech!   The cravings were:

    * A McDonald’s Fish Filet sandwich every single night at 10:30pm.  It had to be fresh and with extra sauce and cheese.

    * Three Cheese Macaroni and cheese (with shells)

    * Liquid Dial Soap (again)

    * Cookies ( I would make dozens and dozens near the end)

With Makenzie (our fourth):

    * Ice cream, the first two months of pregnancy

    * Shrimp- especially in Fettuccine Alfredo

    * Baked potatoes

    * Gordon’s breaded fish filets

    * Chinese Food

With Madison (our fifth born in Germany):

Unfortunately, I had gestational diabetes with her.  Thankfully I didn’t crave sugar, but I did crave pasta~!

    * Broccoli Pasta Roni (sadly they don’t make this anymore)

    * Donar Kabobs (the yummiest sandwich I’ve EVER eaten, made of richly spiced turkey.  I have a similar recipe in the Deluxe Edition)

    * Brotchen (German rolls) and fresh salami sandwiches with cream cheese and chives, lettuce, onions, and tomatoes.

With Meredith (our sixth):

I was extremely sick the first 4 months of my pregnancy with Meri.   Every smell made me sick, but the worst smell to me was the oils in my hair.   I smelled them within hours after I showered.  The only shampoo that saved me were the orange scented "Bed Head" brand shampoo and conditioner.    And brushing my teeth with orange toothpaste.

    * Breakfast burritos (anyway I could get them: Sonic, McDonald’s or homemade)

    * Spam, egg and cheese sandwiches on toast

With our Lindsay our seventh:

    * Jalapenos (our first clue something was different- i.e. pregnant!)

    * Mexican food like crazy

    * Pancakes and eggs

   I remember my first pregnancy as a time of wonder and high stress.  We decided that we needed to get out of our very small apartment and buy our first house after finding out I was pregnant.

It was one of those times that I just decided to eat whatever I wanted.  I craved lots of stuff.  I can't decide if it was the stress or the pregnancy but I never wanted anything healthy (of course).  I needed to have at least two cups of gummy bears everyday.  I could not drive by an Arbys without stopping to get a Beef n cheddar with curly fries and a lemonade.  And last but not least with that first pregnancy I had to have ice cream (no matter what kind it was).  In the end we got our house two weeks before our little girl was born and I managed to only gain 12 pounds during that pregnancy.

      My second successful pregnancy was a lot different.  In the beginning I wanted everything.  I had never been so hungry in my life.

 I remember that soon after finding out that I was pregnant we went to Tennessee to see my in laws.  I very vividly remember going out to a breakfast buffet and being sooooo hungry that I stuffed myself to the waddling point.  We sat for a few minutes and as we were walking out the door after the bill was paid I had felt that I had not eaten in a week!  From that point on I was starving most of the time.  It wasn't until after I found out that I had gestational diabetes that I really started craving things.  All I wanted for lunch was salami with cheese on crackers. For dinner It had to be taco salad. I only understood why I was so hungry after I found out that it was a boy.  If you could see my husband eat you too would understand why I was so hungry.  I'll let you know what happens next time I am pregnant.

My husband and I are pregnant for the first time and I saw this list of pregnancy cravings and I wanted to share mine.

1. Cookout Double Burger. (A fast food chin in North Carolina)  without the bun and with extra pickles, ketchup, and mayo.

2. Shrimp egg foo young

I eat these two items all day everyday.  My husband bring thems home for me when he gets off work.  I don't want to eat anything else.
