I could not pick just one that I like because I love so many of them. Here is a list of the romantic movies that I like and the reasons why.
Sense and Sensibility (Rated PG) – This movie is the first movie I saw at my college little theater and I have loved it ever since. It stars Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, and Kate Winslet. It is a book by Jane Austen and the screen play is written by Emma Thompson. It is a story of how two sisters fall in love. Love of course is romantic; I mean what is better then falling in love? There are twists and turns and the wondering of are they really going to get together? I won't tell you if they do or not but everything ends the way it should and that is what makes a movie good isn't it? Plus, the costumes are to die for. My 4 year old daughter asks me to watch this all the time.
Persuasion (Rated PG) – Also a Jane Austen flick. , staring Amanda Root. Not widely available but it is really good. It is about Anne. She is not beautiful or supper skinny or anything such as that and she was in love with a man but was persuaded not to marry him when he asked. This was because she was young and he didn't have many prospects as far as money went. However, they meet again and he might get married to someone, which of course worries her. Again, I won't tell the ending but I was happy at how it ended. This is such a good movie and the actors so well crafted their characters. I watch this movie a ton. My 4 year old likes this one too. I guess she talks with a British accent because we watch this and the movie above at least once a week each.
Serendipity (Rated PG-13)- This movie stars John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale. The movie is just dripping with the soul mate idea. Which being a romantic, I can't get enough of. It is about a couple who meets in a department store while trying to buy Christmas present for their significant other. They have a great night together and the girl believes in destiny they go on a crazy kind of treasure hunt after he writes his name and number down on a five dollar bill and she writes her name and number down in a book and sells it to a used book store. Then destiny must lead them back together before his wedding. So great about finding love and believing that there is that one person out there just for you. It almost makes me cry every time I watch it.
Just Like Heaven (Rated PG-13) – This is a recent new release. I just watched it last week and can not stop thinking about it. It stars Ms. Witherspoon. I like most of her movies especially Sweet Home Alabama. But in this movie she is a lonely doctor who has a car accident and her soul stays around her apartment where a man has moved in. This movie has it all. It is funny and romantic and just all around a good movie. I did not hear much about it when it was in theaters but it is really good if you like a romantic comedy. My mom and I both got goose bumps at the ending. Lovely, lovely movie.
There are so many others that I love like, Everafter, 50 First Dates, and well, there is a long list of DVD's that I own that my husband can only watch one time, but I could watch them over and over again. There is nothing better then to put the kids to bed a little early, pop some popcorn, snuggle up on the sofa with your honey and watch a romantic comedy.
