Un Birthday party is a big favorite around here. I host large 100-125 guest parties thru out the year and save as many decorations, plates, favors etc as possible then when summer is here and the kids are bored we pick a day and have an unbirthday party. We invite all kids primary age (including nursery since I have 2 in there) and their parent. I generally give assignments so as to not overburden myself. One mom will be in charge of the gift box (a large cardboard box every child puts their gift into) I decorate the box ahead of time and ask each child to go to the dollar store and pick out a toy/gift that he or she would love to get. I instruct the kids to take the gift home and wrap it in brown bag paper and creatively write his/her name all over it. One parent will be in charge of the cake decorating.....I make cupcakes ahead of time and have colorful frosting ready so that the adult can just frost a cupcake and give it to the child to decorate with sprinkles, candy etc. Each child gets one candle. 1 or 2 other adults do games.....meaning they come up with a game and are in charge of it-we've had sheet fishing, hopscotch, hula hoop contest, apple passing games.....etc etc. Since we have such a high turn out I usually have one adult come early and help me set up and one adult man the potty during the party. Everyone helps cleanup. We play games, decorate our cupcakes, light everyone's candle-works best if each parent brings a book of matches and lights there own children's candles, and then we sing "Happy Un Birthday to me". The kids eat their cupcake and then my husband dressed as a clown gives out the gifts one per child and since they have the kids name on the outside we know who not to give the gift to (you want them to get someone else's gift to take home) and about what age group to give it to. I use plates, cups, balloons, napkins, and favors that are left over so the only cost I incur are 3 $1 gifts from the dollar store and a couple of cake mixes (I usually rotate these out of my food storage) and about $10 in cake decorations. The older kids think its great fun to see such a mixed up party....paper Halloween, Christmas, and Easter decorations with ones that say "You're finally 1!" or "Happy 8th Birthday" we have plates from Teletubbies to Star Wars, Baby Shower and Easter.
