How Much Does Your Bottled Water Really Cost You?

Plastic BottledPeople are not only concerned with the high cost of bottled water to our wallets and the environment, but also the low quality. Here is what New York Times columnist Bill Marsh had to say in a recent article:  “Those eight daily glasses of water you're supposed to drink for good health? They will cost you $0.00135 -- about 49 cents a year...

Lingerie for Your Vegetables

Make a fashion statement by knitting a reusable produce bag for your trips to the grocery store or market.

I'm all about reusable bags. Why? Because they're good for the environment, good for the planet, and WAY cuter than the ones they give out at the grocery store. This baby is as STRONG as you could ever want a produce bag to be, shrinks down to practically nothing, doesn't weigh a thing and yet stretches like you wouldn't believe! You can carry a hearty dose of farmer's market fruits or veggies- peppers, onions, carrots, bananas, lettuce, tomatoes, whatever! See those three onions? This bag could easily fit about 10 or more thanks to its super stretchability.

And this baby is SO sexy, don't you think? My husband thought I was knitting lingerie! This is lingerie for your vegetables, baby. Here's how to knit your own!

Sexy Reusable Produce Bag

Supplies:

1 ball Brown Sheep Cotton Fine (doesn't even use a whole ball!)

1 pair size 10 or 10 1/2 straight knitting needles

Cast on 40 stitches. Begin pattern.

Row 1: *K2tog, (yo) twice, k2tog; rep from * (yes, you will K2tog twice in a row when you repeat)

Row 2: *K1, (k1, p1) into double yo of previous row, k1. Repeat from * (This is only a little tricky the first time... you knit into the first yo loop, and you purl into the second half of the yo).

Row 3: K2, *k2tog, (yo) twice, K2tog; rep from * to last 2 stitches, end K2.

Row 4: K2, *k1, (k1, p1) into double yo of previous row, k1; rep from * to last 2 stitches, end k2

Repeat rows 1-4 until you reach the desired length (twice the length that you want your bag--just remember it is VERY stretchy both directions!). Bind off loosely. Fold the bag in half so that the cast-on edge and bind-off edge meet. Use a crochet hook to loosely single crochet up both sides to seal them closed. Crochet a 24 inch chain out of the same yarn to create the "tie". Weave your chain through the top edge loops of the bag and tie a knot toward the ends of the chain.

There you go... your very own sexy vegetable lingerie!
